First Edition
First American Edition. Octavo. 298 pages, index. While Thomas Aquinas (1224?-1274) was the greatest of the medieval philosophers. His first twenty-six questions on the existence and nature of God are essential. Modern skeptics have attempted to discount what Aquinas wrote but the depth and genius of his writing is still recognized as among the greatest thinkers in philosophic thought. The five proofs for God's existence were refinements rooted in the logic of Aristotle and Maimonides but his ability to organize them with relentless logic still must be considered by both skeptic and believer. Of course, the ultimate issue which he relegates to a mystery is the problem of evil. Later, David Hume's Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion took an approach to show what appeared to be fallacies in his logic. A very important contribution to the thought of Aquinas in the early 21st century. A fine copy bound in green paper covered boards lettered in red and white, spine lettering red and white.
