Condition: Good. The collection includes 5 large format engravings published by A. Lévy - 41 x 31 cm. and 41 x 61 cm. (very rare); 2 drawings dated 1838; 4pp manuscript on the history of the owners; thirteen 18th & 19th Century engravings and lithographs. Considered as a jewel of the French Renaissance and a mecca of art, Anet Castle was built in 1548 by King Henry II to his mistress, Diane de Poitiers. The greatest artists of the time involved in its construction which include Philibert de l'Orme, architect and Renaissance humanist, known for his anti Italianism and interpretation of antiquity. The field includes the magnificent Chateau de Diane where there is remaining a wing only, the Greek cross Chapel Royal, masterpiece of originality with its checkerboard trompe l'oeil, the triumphal gate which is embedded in the curious clock that shows the phases of the Moon and the funeral chapel where Diane rests again since 29 May 2010.Le château d'Anet, construit pour la belle Diane par Henri II, était orné d'une fontaine la représentant sous la forme d'une déesse. Provenance: Sophie Renard, Chateau-Thierry. 02400 Brasles, France.
