Condition: V.G. First. Letter to Margot Asquith p.p. 232. Loosely inserted is a two page letter from Birrell to Margot Asquith wife of P.M., H.N. Asquith. discussing Ireland dated 19th December, 1921. "I find it hard to forgive K. for his total lack of imagination about Ireland and the Irish - was persuaded that an armed Irishman was a danger to England. It was most unfortunate that he happened to have been dropped in Ireland He always fancied himself an Irishman & used to say to me Ah! You will never understand my countrymen. It would appear K is a reference to Kitchner of Khartoum (born in Ballylongford) and who was hated by Birrell.
