A medical work by Domenico Leoni (d. 1592), a physician from Bologna; a comprehensive survey of various illnesses and their medical treatment. A revised edition. The book is dedicated to Guglielmo Gonzaga, Duke of Mantua. Antiqua typesetting; title page is decorated with woodcut printer's device of Andreas Wechelus; other pages are decorated with headpieces and initials. A complete copy. (There are very old pen marginalia on several pages; the back endpaper is covered with notes written with pen, probably from the 17th century.) /// Parchment binding with wooden boards, blind embossing, leather strings and coloured edges; hardback, [16]+1276+[36] pp., 8° (12 x 18.5 cm), parchment worn, discoloured and slightly stained, metal clasps missing, edges darkened, top edge has a few tiny stains, front endpaper slightly darkened, hinge skilfully fixed by bookbinder, back endpaper has bookworm traces, title leaf worn and yellowed, with a few small ink stains, pages yellowed, ca. 10 leaves have brown spot in upper right corner, ca. 30 leaves chipped (text slightly affected in several cases), ca. 100 leaves have bookworm traces (text only rarely affected), ca. 50 leaves have minor creases (only folded corners), condition: good Book Language/s: Latin.…

Condition: Very Good. in-8, pp. (24), 572, legatura coeva p. pergamena floscia, titolo ms. al dorso. Al frontespizio titolo racchiuso in elaborata bordura silografica. Alcuni capilettera incisi.  Dedica dell'a. al Card. Filippo Boncompagni. Prima edizione della sola prima parte di questo vasto trattato di medicina generale (come in Wellcome I, 3746 e Durling 2784: ''contains only sectio prima; apparently no more published in this edition''). A pag. 572 un avviso dello stampatore recita che le altre due sezioni appariranno al più presto (e l'opera completa sarà pubblicata dallo stesso stampatore nel 1583). Questa prima parte si occupa di tutte le malattie del corpo umano (la seconda e la terza riguarderanno quelle psichiche e degli apparati nutritivo e riproduttivo).
