Title and centerpieces to spine compartments in gilt. A little wear to corners and spine ends but a very good and bright copy nonetheless. Top edge gilt, marbles endpapers, internally bright and clean. Perhaps the earliest iteration of prolific pornographer Alphonse Momas in one of his most celebrated pseudonyms, the one under which he wrote "La Femme aux Chiens", among others. This tale follows the remembered exploits of libertine Theophile, who, amongst other pursuits, enjoys exposing himself to young, unsuspecting ladies in the Bois de Boulogne. Momas was a skilled purveyor of such tales, though much of the content wouldn't fly today in parallel circles. While Liseux was a Parisian publishing house in the latter part of the nineteenth century, it was not a publisher of pornographic or clandestine works. It was however a visible brand to which nefarious publishers could attribute their salacious works to lend them credence, much like the falsified pre-revolutionary dates found in works such as these.
