Après une longue période d'apprentissage dans différents restaurants, Sam Letrone (1913 à 2007) mena une vie bohème dans le Midi et en Afrique du Nord. De retour en France, il repris son métier de cuisinier et ouvra en 1947son propre établissement en Touraine, Au Coq Ha…rdi Chez Sam. Le restaurant obtint une étoile au Guide Michelin dès 1947. Sam Letrône était un personnage haut en couleur, à la fois chef talentueux et showman. Il orchestrerait son repas avec une troupe d'instruments de musique de sa propre invention. Le spectacle mettait en scène des éléments cocasses comme Julie qui pond à la commande ou Boniface qui fume, le tout dans une ambiance joyeuse et rabelaisienne. En 1954, il s'installe à Pontchartrain, où l'étoile Michelin continue de briller sur son restaurant Chez Sam, et ce, jusqu'en 1981 Dédicace accompagné de petit dessins Sam Letrone . Tampon de son restaurant la rotisserie du coq hardi à Pontchartrain. Souvenirs recueillis et adaptés par Pierre Pascaud. Recueil de chansons, poèmes, anecdotes culinaires, avec illustrations de Peynet, Roger Sam, Barberousse, J. Pruvost, etc Publié par Rabelais en 1955 , broché avec une couverture en assez bon état, format 19,5x14 cm , 234 pages. Dédicacé par l'auteur.

Previous ownership signature on half title page, "Feliza Vanderbilt Paris 1949." Feliza Vanderbilt was married briefly to Cornelius Vanderbilt IV. Signed presentation to Feliza Vanderbilt from Sam Letrone with drawing on verso of photographic frontispiece. Sam Letrone (1913-2007) celebrated restaurateur-troubadour of Pontchartrain was a celebrity chef of his day. Guests who would ask for an omelet at the restaurant would get a fresh egg from hen Césarine upon orders from Sam Letrone. There were other well-trained plumed performers at Sam's restaurant "Au Coq Hardi" which acquired a fine reputation with one star in the Michelin Guide in 1947. The book is in fair condition with shelf wear, staining to spine, tearing to spine, creasing to one corner, soiling to covers, two 1/4" tears to rear cover and bumping to edges. Some pages are still unopened. Interior is clean and tight. Beige spine/no text. #031323 Size: 8vo.
