Die Karten zeigen (in dieser Reihenfolge) Süd-Grönland; Labrador; Vereinigten Staaten von Nord-Amerika( 3 Karten auf einem Blatt), die Mosquito-Küste, St. Thomas und St Jan, St. Croix, Jamaica, Antigua, St. Kitts, Barbados, Tobago, Surinam (mit Paramaribo), Süd-Afrika, Victoria Süd-Ost Australia und West Himalaya. Hier vorliegend in der seltenen ersten Ausgabe. Levin Theodor Reichel, Bischof der Brüdergemeine, "stammte aus einer alten und angesehenen Lausitzer Predigerfamilie, die sich der Herrnhuter Gemeinschaft angeschlossen hatte. Er wurde am 4. März 1812 in der Brüdercolonie Bethlehem in Pennsylvanien geboren [und siedelte 1818] nach der Herrnhutercolonie Niesky in Schlesien über Nach Vollendung seiner Studien erhielt er 1834 einen Ruf, den Brüdergemeinden in Nordamerika zu dienen. Zuerst wirkte er 3 Jahre lang als Lehrer zu Nazareth in Pennsylvanien, dann seit 1837 als Prediger in Schöneck und seit 1839 in Emmaus, darauf seit 1844 als Ehechorpfleger wiederum in Nazareth, seit 1853 als Gemeinhelfer in Lititz und seit 1854 als Präses der Provinzial-Helferconferenz zu Salem in der Wachau in Nord-Carolina. 1857 nahm er als Delegirter an der Generalsynode in Herrnhut theil Im Herbst 1858 wurde ihm eine Visitation der westindischen Brüdermissionen übertragen. Er besuchte zunächst die dänischen Inseln St. Thomas, St. Jan und St. Croix, dann die englischen Besitzungen St. Kitts und Antigua. Ueberall inspicirte er die Kirchen und Schulen, hielt Conferenzen mit den Missionaren und den eingeborenen Helfern ab, besuchte die schwarzen Plantagenarbeiter, predigte und taufte, schlichtete Streitigkeiten, sorgte für die Abstellung von Mißständen und hinterließ mannigfache Anregungen. Im Sommer 1859 traf er wieder in Deutschland ein [und entwarf] von allen Ländern, in denen die Brüdergemeine ihr Bekehrungswerk treibt, genaue Karten mit Angabe aller vorhandenen Kirchen, Schulen und Predigtplätze. Aus diesen Karten entstand allmählich sein "Missions-Atlas der Brüder-Unität", der 1860 vom Missionsdepartement in Herrnhut als Ersatz für den veralteten und vergriffenen Atlas von Linder herausgegeben wurde. Er enthält 15 Tafeln in Steindruck, die sämmtliche Missionsgebiete der Brüdergemeine darstellen und von den Missionaren an Ort und Stelle revidirt und ergänzt worden sind; ferner statistische Tabellen über die Zahl der Stationen, der Missionsarbeiter und der Getauften, ein Verzeichniß aller von den Brüdern unterhaltenen Schulen sowie eine kurze, nach Ländern geordnete Missionschronik. Das Werk fand nicht nur den Beifall der Missionsfreunde, sondern hat auch geographischen Werth, da es mancherlei Einzelheiten darbietet, die man auf anderen Karten vergeblich suchen würde."
