String-bound wrapper, japanese style. Designed by Carl Kay and John Kristensen and printed by hand on a letterpress by J. Kristensen in Monotype Bembo on Curtis Ragston paper. Foredge untrimmed. Ladino (aka Judezmo, Judeo-Spanish, 'Spanyol') is the traditional language of Sephardic Jews, who in 1492 when given a choice by Ferdinand and Isabella, between converting to Christianity or exile, chose exile. They were scattered over the Mediterranean basin and elsewhere. The majority of Spanish Jews remained in Spain by converting, but some of those were caught practicing Judaism in secret and ended up were burned alive in festive public spectacles called auto da Fe, even two centuries after the inquisition was established.
