Soft Covers. Condition: VG. No Jacket. Photos, Map (illustrator). Revised Edition. This early account of the eruption of Mount Tarawera (near Rotorua) in 1886 was compiled by Thomson W Leys, a leading journalist of the time. Subsequently reprinted, this completely revised new edition was published in 1950 and all copies are now scarce. This record of the catastrophic upheavel, which destroyed the famous Pink and White Terraces, includes many eye-witness and first- hand accounts from survivors, details of the lakes, terraces, geysers and volcanoes of the Rotorua region and how widespread the effects of the Tarawera eruption were felt. "A Weird Region" is also notable for its excellent collection of photographs, 23 of them full page, including scenes before and after the eruption. 60 pages, b/w photos throughout, double page map. Brown card covers with decorative front are VG with light rubbing to spine, light creasing front corners, internally excellent.
