This book stands as a testament to the philosophy and ethics critical to the field of librarianship, establishing principles that guide the attitudes and standards that govern the work of librarians. Explored within are ideas concerning the importance of intellectual freedom, the neutrality and impartiality of materials selection, and the enduring value of the library as a space for exploration and refuge, a mission made more vital by the era's emergent cultural and political turmoil. The author compellingly argues the critical role of the American library in upholding the promise of equality, diversity, and unfettered access to information for all. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
