Brossura. Condition: come nuovo. prima edizione. "Lina Selander's Around the Cave of the Double Tombs is a recasting into a book of her film with the same title. It takes its starting point in the artist's research trips to the West Bank and especially to the city of Hebron. We are confronted with photographs, and with still images, depicting in a rather abstract and distanced manner various situations: a model of ancient Jerusalem in a Museum, a check-point with its massive security architecture squeezed into a historical building, houses, walls, objects. Between these images are photographical sequences showing from below a chain link fence above a shopping alley in Hebron, built to protect the Palestinian inhabitants from objects thrown at them by Israeli settlers. Just as in a number of Selander's earlier works, we find ourselves in an intersection between text and image, historiography and singular experience, Realpolitik and visual projection. Around the Cave of the Double Tombs is concerned with questions of representability and the possibility of text and image constellations to interact with a specific reality. In the epilogue of the book Felix Vogel writes: "Contrary to a conventional image of Palestine and the conflict as emphasized and exploited by the mass media and contrary to dominant documentary practices, Selander turns away from a documentary exposition and instead reflects on and projects layers of control, dream and confinement, both in relation to the place and its history and to the problem of showing and saying it". Selander's visual poetics her montages of still and moving images and text may be described as a continuous opening; a creation of a place where different layers historical, political, spatial, formal, visual interact and open for a diversity of simultaneous readings, creating a new place for reflection where these different layers of meaning overlay one another, rather than merely correspond." Text: Vogel Felix. cm 13x21; pp. 608; BW ills.; paperback. as new.
