When we form such a team, we take a deliberate step towards God's goal of bringing together a great multitude from every nation, tribe, people and language. But what does this look like? How do Bible-based multicultural teams work in practice? Add to basketVery rare first issue of the first edition of a medical treatise on natural poisons, their antidotes and their applicability in curing some diseases, by the Swedish physician and botanist Johannis Linder (1678-1724) from Wermlandia. Linder studied in Uppsala and Leiden and took his degree in Harderwijk. Boerhaave mentions this treatise in his Verhandeling over de kragten der geneesmiddelen (1762), p. 378, in the chapter on antidotes, noting that Johannes Lindelstolpe's book on poisons (1739) had already been published under the name Linder at Leiden in 1707. The intellectual Queen Ulrika Eleonora of Sweden knighted him in 1719 and from that date he used the name Lindelstolpe" . It seems that the second issue of this first edition was printed in 1708.With stamp of the Library of the Medical Society of the County of Kings (Brooklyn, New York, founded in 1822) on title-page, and the presentation form of the University Library of Uppsala to the Library of the Medical Society, dated 23 May 1931. Lacking the index. Title-page sl. soiled, fly-leaf loose, some annotations.l cf. BMN, I, p. 384 (1708 issue ); WorldCat (1708 issue); not in Hoogendoorn. Contemporary half calf, boards covered with sprinkled paper, red spine label lettered in gold. Pages: 268 pp. [pp. 1-16 with the index missing].

Insert with a few insignificant spots.Bibliotheca Walleriana 5843. Blomqvist Mat och dryck i Sverige p. 142 for first edition published in 1712. On verso of title leaf is an official letter of recommendation, issued in 1711 by Collegium medicum through Magnus Bromell. Linder was raised to the nobility as Lindestolpe in 1719. He worked, among other things, as a spa physician at Wiksbergs källa [spring] in Södermanland, Sweden. He wrote a local flora, one of Sweden's oldest, and also published a dyeing manual. He won some international fame through his doctoral thesis, defended in Harderwijk in the Netherlands, which treats the veneral diseases. Linder was also active as an occasional poet; some examples of his verses can be found in this book.

Condition: Very good. Stockholm, J. H. Werner, 1711. 8:o. (2),62 pp. Fine but slightly soiled vellum-like boards with red leather label on front cover. Contemporary marbled wrappers preserved. Faint dampstain throughout. Crossed-out signature on title. Waller 5839. Johan Linder (1678-1724, raised to the nobility as Lindestolpe 1719) came from an impoverished home but his aptitude for studies soon made him well-known and he rose in the ranks. He won international reputation through his doctoral thesis, presented in Harderwijk, The Netherlands in 1707, which treats venereal diseases. Linder was, among other things, a ship's doctor in the Swedish Navy and spa physician at the Viksberg Spa in Salem south of Stockholm, but also published works on the dyeing of textiles and some occasional poems. During his service in the navy he experienced the prevailing plague, which led to the present work. Linder discusses the significance of the weather in the genesis of the disease, but claims that more than half of the people who die in the plague die because of imagination and fear.
