Seller: Between the Covers-Rare Books, Inc. ABAA, Gloucester City, NJ, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Oblong quarto measuring 11" x 7". String-tied black cloth over stiff paper boards with "photographs" stamped in white on the front board. Contains 143 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 1" x 1" and 6" x 9" with captions. Near fine album with near fine photographs. A photo album kept by C.E. Lindholm, an amateur photographer in New England during World War II. The photographs show landscapes, portraits, and family homes in New England between 1940 and 1943. Lindholm is also pictured throughout the album the first time in a photo he captioned, "me and my hobbies 1941," and shows Lindholm tinkering with a camera with fishing poles against the wall next to him. Three large photos show the Salmon River in New York with one photo showing a man in waders in the water fishing. Other photos show portraits of children, candids of smiling friends, and animals of the area including farm life and even a squirrel. One photo was printed in the shape of a heart and shows a pretty young girl looking toward the camera. Lindholm photographed him friends having a picnic on the beach with people eating chowder on a checkered blanket. One photo shows a lighthouse, another shows a winter scene of a brook with snow on its bank. He also photographed holidays and seasons including a girl holding a pumpkin for Halloween, the table set for Thanksgiving, and a man dressed as Santa. One interesting photo shows Lindholm photographing himself in a mirror in 1943. Some photos show children horseback riding, scenes from a bustling downtown, and the result of a snow storm. Lindholm photographed fishing trips and people collecting clams on a beach. A wonderful collection of well-composed amateur photography detailing 1940s New England.
