Mit der vorliegenden Arbeit, bereits in Prag begonnen und in Heidelberg zum Abschluss gebracht, gilt Alfred Weber bis heute als einer der Begründer der Industriellen Standortlehre, wenngleich seine vereinfachende Abstraktion stets Kritik erfuhr. Politisch stand Weber linksliberal, war Mitbegründer der DDP, stand über seine Schüler Carlo Mierendorff und Theodor Haubach dem Kreisauer Kreis nahe, trat 1945 der SPD bei. Im Jahre 1954 unterlag er als Präsidentschaftskanditat Theodor Heuss. Er war in Prag Lehrer von Max Brod und leitete die mündliche Prüfung Franz Kafkas bei dessen Promotion, in Heidelberg gelten u. a. Norbert Elias und Carl Joachim Friedrich als Webers Schüler. Im Jahre 1933 schied er als Kritiker der Nationalsozialismus freiwillig aus dem Amt und kam so seiner Entlassung zuvor. Alfred Weber gilt als typischer Vertreter einer sog. "Inneren Emigration".
