Softcover. Tan paper wraps, 12 leaves, 10 plates. Text is in German. The first volume only of an original set of three. Contains faithful reproductions of 10 examples of one-page pamphlets or flyers from the 15th-18th centuries. Includes an introduction and an annotated list of the 10. They originated from Nürnberg (3), Paris (3), Antwerp (2), Haarlem (1), and Ferrara (1). A scarce find. G- (Wraps and pages are loose and all are present; both wraps and first leaf have a variety of wear to edges; wraps have naturally tanned; plates are clean and bright.).

Complete set, 5 parts bound in 6 volumes, quarto (288x235 cm) 445, 258, 663, 314, 219 pp. Text in german, blackletter. History of german art, VI-XIX century. Each volume is illustrated with hundreds of engravings and many b/w and chromolithographed color plates, some full/double page. I: 54 plates, 1 in color. II: 29 plates, 3 in color. III: 36+45 plates, some folding, 10 in color. IV: 40 plates, 8 in color. V: 32 plates, 4 in color. Firmly bound in contemporary cloth, spines bleached, gilted titles, all in good condition, except some dampstainings to front cover of volume III (part 1). A fine copy. All books are in stock in fine condition or described meticulously. Very safe packaging.

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Hardcover portfolio containing 10 original softcover sections, each with its own wraps and title page. Measures 13 x 19 inches. The portfolio itself is plain as can be; green bookcloth spines, gray boards, remains of original brown ties on three sides. Typed, glazed, paper label on the spine. Functional only; it was never meant to look too snazzy. The 10 original sections of the work are protected inside. They are printed with brittle paper wraps, faded from age and chipped at the edge. All the paper spines are split and the plates in each section were never bound in to begin with. Each section (they are numbered 1-10) contains 10 loose lithographs of examples of early printing. Printed in color, though most of the colors are black and red ink & a cream background. Extreme bottom edge of each plate has rubberstamp from the Newark NJ Free Public Library. Back of each plate has rubberstamp at the top edge, 'plates filed.' Each section has a brief explanatory page or two in German. Printed between 1884 and 1887. Complete in 10 sections, with 100 lithographs. Attractive plates would look excellent in frames, but in this form, flakes of the brittle wraps chip off as we flip through it. Scarce.
