Minor toning and tiny staple tear at top margin no affect. Suitable for framing. Comes with a facsimile title page folder with title page on cover. The musculus was…a Roman war machine. Romans used the musculus machine during the siege of the fortress which protected the soldiers during the earthworks to clear the access road to the walls for Roman siege towers. Aprrox. 1960-1969. ?Facsimiles of title pages were printed and paired with original leaves then distributed to institutions and collectors by Stanley or Marl Slotkin in the sixties. Most of the subject matter of the original books was biblical or academic. Original leaves in the set included an example of 17rh century musical notation, pages from an early printed Hebrew bible and its commentary, and a page from an early printed polygot bible in Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek and Latin [Vulgate].
