And so it starts, a gradual opening up of interest, so very slowly, till we reach Moses Harris and Arthur Aikin (1773 - 1854) by which time a clear distinction had been made, luckily, between birds, fish and mammals to butterflies and moths. The earlier attempts seem to have been directed to children, perhaps because of their relevant size.Handsome pictures of many of these gentlemen and occasionally ladies are provided.
