Report of the Trial by Jury, Thomas Mackenzie, Esq. Against Robert Roy, Esq. W.S. Reported by Simon MacGregor. May 11, 1830. Edinburgh: Printed for Daniel Lizars [by Ballantyne and Co.], 1830. 84 pp. Octavo (8-1/2" x 5-1/4"). Light toning to interior, light foxing and soiling in a few places. $250. * Only edition. Roy, a Scottish lawyer, was accused of swindling an estate from his client Kenneth Mackenzie of Dundonnell by Mackenzie's son Thomas. The trial attracted several notable legal names, among them Henry Cockburn, who had secured an acquittal for Helen McDougal in the famous Burke and Hare murder trial the year before. His jury address and the exchanges between counsel are well-documented in our account. The jury was split and a second trial was held in January 1831, which resulted in Roy's conviction. OCLC locates 10 copies of this title, 4 in North America (Library of Congress, University of Minnesota Law, Harvard Law, Los Angeles County Law).
