Mt. Holyoke Llamarada, class yearbook, 1897. The Bryant Printing Company: Florence, Mass. Measures 10" x 8.25" inches. 259 pages. Original red boards with decorative floral pattern in silver on front cover next to silver script reading, "The Mt. Holyoke Llamarada." Yearbook is dedicated to the class of 1898 and is filled with historical content including rosters of faculty, students and alumni, student literature and events, faculty portraits and biographies with photographs and illustrations throughout. A photo of the banjo club shows 10 women in white dresses holding the instruments on their laps, some leaning on one another, all looking in different directions, a lovely group composition. The basketball team photo shows 9 women in bloomers and high collared tunics with the numbers "99" hand painted on their shirt fronts. In all the photos and endearments written from students to faculty and to one another, a spirit of camaraderie and class unity prevails. One short entry titled "The Chemistry of College Spirit" reads, "A small quantity of the well-known substances known as love and loyalty are subjected to the action of a little college and warmed to the proper temperature." The text is a charming overview of the students' love for their school and faculty. Historic advertisements at front and back. Scuffing to boards. Texblock clean and tight. Overall good condition.
