The term "reactionary" was used by his Chinese captors to identify those POWs who refused to cooperate, but rather caused trouble. It was a term he wore proudly, a badge of honor. This plain but powerful narrative describes his life as a POW in camps in North Korea during the war. I first met Pate at a reunion of Korean War POWs. This book was presented to my wife on the occasion of us conducting an interview with him. He was a decorated Army veteran, a staunch supporter of his POW comrades, and committed to fighting for freedom; it was an honor to have known him. Inscribed by Author(s).
