Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. A complete seven?volume 1859 set of Lord Macaulay's History of England represents one of the more substantial mid?Victorian printings of his celebrated narrative, though the standard work itself was originally issued in five volumes between 1848 and 1861. The 1859 date aligns with Macaulay's final years and with publishers issuing uniform multi?volume library sets. Contemporary half calf spine, corners over marbled boards, the leather a dark brown with a rich Victorian polish. Spine with five raised bands, creating six gilt?tooled compartments, each panel decorated in a restrained period style. Red morocco title labels with gilt lettering; volume numerals either gilt?stamped, Leather corners, Marbled edges and nonpareil marbled endpapers, typical of mid?19th?century bespoke or bookseller bindings. Minor wear to spine, shelf wear to cover(s). A nice tidy set.
