First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very good. First edition. Three volumes. 8vo. Half brown leather. Spines in five compartments with raised bands, tooled in blind and with the title tooled in gilt. Marbled paper sides; yellow endpapers. The text blocks have occasional light staining; the frontispiece to volume 2 is stained along the bottom, not affecting the image; the bindings are lightly rubbed but the paper sides are worn on the edges. Still a very good set. The author was a trailblazing aristocrat known for two major achievements: the introduction of smallpox vaccination to Britain, and an in-person description of Turkish society, including glimpses of the lives of Turkish women. She was also a major advocate for the education of women., .
