In many ways, the story of the Mamiku plantation (on the east coast of the island) is a microcosm of the story of Saint Lucia itself - wars and battles between… the English and the French; changes of ownership; the years of slavery; the development of the sugar industry; and then the dismantling of that industry in favour, nowadays anyhow, of tourism. Excellently written historical account which concludes with a very useful bibliography.
