Top edge lightly stained. Brodart-wrapped jacket rubbed at corners, creased at top edge, and lightly rubbed at spine head and heel, front flap stained. Educated in Manitoba and employed as a preacher in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Tommy Douglas (1904-1986) became a prominent prairie politician. He served five terms as Premier of Saskatchewan and was leader of both the Co-Operative Commonwealth Federation and New Democratic Party. This volume contains excerpts from 35 speeches given by Douglas throughout his political career. The speeches demonstrate Douglas' politics, expressing his stance on topics such as socialism and civil rights. The book also traces Douglas' response to provincial, federal, and global issues ranging from Medicare to the October Crisis. Editor L. D. Lovick provides a brief contextual introduction to each speech and opens the volume with a biography of Douglas. The ffep. is a flurry of inscriptions and signatures by NDP members including Tommy Douglas, Dave Barrett (Premier of British Columbia), and Ted Miller (MP for Nanaimo-Alberni).

Book is in excellent shape with a good dust jacket that has very minor wear, and features a picture of the author. Book is tight with clean green boards and tight clean pages. Truly a great copy. Tommy Douglas was voted greatest Canadian and deserved such a title with the amount of change he affected in Canadian history.
