Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. A good sound and clean copy with no inscriptions. The illustrated green cloth boards are clean, although somewhat sun discoloured and with a small area of reddish dye stain at the bottom corner of the back board. The title lettering and illustration on the front board are pretty clear with the spine lettering being much less clear but still visible. There is some bumping and wear at the extremities but certainly nothing severe. Internally the pages are clean although quite browned end papers and page block edge. It appears that the front fly leaf has been torn out and is missing. In all a pretty decent copy of a scarce first edition. Photos always available promptly on request.

This book takes readers on a chronological journey through prehistory to the early Bronze Age, using the fictional landscape of Heacham, Norfolk, as a backdrop to tell the interconnected stories of eight families and their descendants. Set during the transition from Paleolithic to Bronze Age periods, the novel explores everyday life, the challenges of survival, and the struggles, fears, and rivalries of early hunter-gatherers. The author paints a vivid picture of daily life, utilizing anthropological knowledge to describe the manufacture of tools, weapons, and clothing, as well as food gathering and preparation. A depth of storytelling emerges as the lives of the families unfold, influenced by environmental and social factors. As well as the material challenges facing these early people, the book also examines their spiritual and cultural beliefs. It explores how rituals and sacrifices were used to appease gods and ensure good fortune in hunting, and how these practices evolved over time. Overall, this book provides a well-researched and evocative insight into the lives and beliefs of our distant ancestors. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
