Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Copyright 1945. "Born" in Yank, the Army Weekly, GI JOE was created in 1942 by Lt. Dave Breger in who had created the cartoon "Private Breger" for the Saturday Evening Post. The name became representative of the American soldier everywhere. The cartoon appeared until the Spring of 1944. (More details included in the introduction of the book.) The pages are orange with several cartoons on each page. End papers slightly tanned/ foxed. Tan boards with dark brown pictorial and print on front. Cover has some soiling. Spine sunned, bumped and torn at bottom, bumped at top. Edges of spine are rubbed, some surface nicks on spine. Edges of boards as well as the corners are rubbed. Starting at the 8th page of cartoons. Some very light soil near the lower binding on a few pages. Otherwise the page block hardly seems used.
