Privately printed Custer biography by Captain Edward Smith Luce of the 7th cavalry "Garry Owen" veterans. This copy inscribed to an infantry colonel who likely served with Luce: "To my good friend of the "old army days" - Col. B.H. Hensley, USA." Luce gives a brief biography of the early life of the horse, Comanche, the military career of Myles Keogh, and covers Custer in the Civil War, and at the Washita and Little Big Horn. Howes L553. Luther 114. 8vo, 127pp. Photos, facsimiles. Inscribed by Luce to a Col. B.H. Hensley at Custer Battlefield, MT on the copyright page, and additionally signed on the dedication page. Publisher's blue cloth stamped in gilt in yellow, illustrated jacket. Hensley's ownership inscription to front pastedown, later ownership stamp to ffep. Boards with a touch of spotting along top edge, jacket chipped at spine ends and along edges. Very good First edition, number 335 of an unknown limitation.
