Hacia 1999, el filólogo y poeta Luis Alberto de Cuenca encontró en una librería de viejo una edición de Les contes des fées, de Charles Perrault, ilustrados por Lucien Lafo…rge en blanco y negro y color y publicados por Jean Cocteau y Blaise Cendrars en sus Éditions de La Sirène en 1920. El libro, una auténtica joya bibliográfica, incluía los ocho cuentos en prosa del gran narrador francés: La bella durmiente del bosque, Capertucita Roja, Barba Azul, El gato con botas, Las hadas, Cenicienta, Riquete el del Copete y Pulgarcito. Más allá de la innegable magia de los textos, la labor del ilustrador Laforge resulta tan delicada y tan radicalmente moderna para su tiempo que invitaba a asumir el reto de su reedición. Para ello, se ha respetado el formato y, con ligeras variantes, la maquetación originales. El propio Luis Alberto de Cuenca, Profesor de Investigación del CSIC y Premio Nacional de Traducción, ha cuidado de la edición y ha trasladado al castellano los cuentos de Perrault, siguiendo fielmente la edición ilustrada por Laforge, que excluye las moralejas en verso que figuran en la editio princeps de 1697. El estilo de Perrault es de una claridad y una frescura enormemente gratificantes y los dibujos de Laforge se adelantan a su época, e incluso a la actual, en sus planteamientos estéticos, de una originalidad apabullante. Éste es el tipo de libro ilustrado que apetece editar, aunque sólo sea para compartir con los lectores el disfrute de una obra maestra del pasado que llega a nuestros días, noventa años después, con una insoslayable vocación de futuro. L'auteur du texte, Lucien DESCAVE, fut également connu pour ses idées pacifistes, imprégnées d'anarchisme. Son roman LA COLONNE (1901) est ainsi dédié: "A la descendance des héros de la Commune dont la gloire est d'avoir jeté à bas le mat de cocagne impérial (.) je dédie cet encouragement à recommencer".Notre exemplaire, sur papier vergé, porte le N° 635 (sur un total de 1000). On en a tire cinquante exemplaires sur papier Whatman numerotes de 1 a 50.".
