St. Luke's Episcopal Church is still active in Elma. This cook book was published just two years into the Great Depression, a time when good, inexpensive home cooking was more important than ever. The Index lists the categories of recipes included: Cocktails and Sauces, Soups, Salads and Dressings, Sea Foods, Meats, Vegetables, Bread and Rolls, Hot Cakes and Waffles, Pies, Puddings and Sauces, Frozen Desserts, Cookies and Doughnuts, Cakes and Icings, Beverages, Sandwiches, Candy, and Pickles, Jelly, Etc. Most of the recipes name the woman contributing them. Besides women of St. Luke's Guild, other women were from the Washington towns of Montesano, Aberdeen, McCleary, Black Lake, Satsop, Klaber, Washougal, Olympia, Tacoma, and Seattle. Recipes were also contributed by women in Eugene, Oregon, Austin, California, and Harbor View and Toledo, Ohio. A few cite a cookbook from which they were copied. Another is attributed to Mrs. Calvin Coolidge. PRICE: $ 40.
