Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 3rd Edition. W. E. Lunt - History of England. New York and London: Harper & Brothers, 1945. Third Edition in the Harper's Historical Series. Octavo in green cloth with black and gilt spine panel. Copyright dates 1928, 1938, 1945 indicate the revised wartime third edition, printed in th…e United States. The book is in Very Good condition: square and tight, with mild edge rubbing and light bumping to spine ends; endpapers toned and foxed, with one small closed tear at hinge but binding firm. Text is clean and bright throughout, free of annotation; a small handmade "PJM" bookmark with colored pencil embellishment is laid in. Lunt's survey remains a respected academic text for its balanced narrative of English political, social, and religious development from the early kingdoms through the Stuart era. William E. Lunt (1886-1959) was Professor of History at Haverford College and an authority on medieval England and the papacy. His meticulous studies on church finance and English institutions were widely cited by historians of the interwar and post-WWII generation. History of England synthesized his scholarship into an accessible, enduring survey used in American universities for decades.
