Lyon, directeur Jacques Aubenque. Livres.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. A scarce portfolio that captures the industrial aesthetic defining early twentieth-century modernist furniture design, when metal emerged as a symbol of modernity, minimalism, and functionality. The portfolio contains twenty-four loose sheets with richly printed images of furniture attributed to influential designers including Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, René Herbst, André Lurçat, Pierre Legrain, Louis Sognot, Marcel Breuer, Germain Debré, Boivinet, R.C. Coquery, Robert Mallet-Stevens, and R. Boyer. Each design exemplifies the modernist union of form and function, with metal employed as the defining material and an emphasis on streamlined, utilitarian construction. The portfolio offers a concise survey of avant-garde French decorative arts and the evolving language of machine-age design in the years around 1930. Condition: the twenty-four loose sheets are all in very good condition - no foxing or staining. The portfolio case shows some wear consistent with age. The top corner of the cover has worn down and the the cloth spine has been professionally repaired using archival methods.
