Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No date circa 1949 , 19cm x 25cm120 pp, 7 full page colour plates + line drawings in the text by Cicely Gwynne Lushington. The original coloured front paper cover bound before the title page. some spotting to the title page. Recent green cloth binding with gilt title to the spine. Possible originally issued in paper covers. A very good clean copy.

First Edition. Scarce first (and only) edition of this fragile work. English ornithologist, Author and Bird illustrator Cicely Gwynne Lushington née Kershaw (1903?1987) was born and raised in Ceylon and gained fame as an artist and sculptor whose pottery birds command good prices at auction. Has front cover illustration detached - it may have been front cover of a paper jacket, or possibly adhering to the soft card covers but has become separated,otherwise VG. Colour illustrations of the birds are protected by tissue guards. Scarce.
