Profusely illustrated with color photographs and color front and rear map illustrations of the Muirfield Village Golf Course. Signed by Jack Nicklaus with thick black Sharpie/marker on the first free front endpaper. "Presented by Rolex, this is the official record -- The Presidents Cup 2013. The Presidents Cup is a team match-play competition between the United States and the world's best non-European players. The Presidents Cup 2013 was played Oct. 3-6 at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, which also serves annually as the site of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance on the PGA Tour. The U.S. Team, led by Captain Fred Couples for a third time, wone by a score of 18 1/2 points to 15 1/2 points over the International Team. led by Captain Nick Price. For the third time in a row, Tiger Woods won the clinching point for the American Team, defeating Richard Sterne in Singles, 1 up. The No. 1 player in the Official World Golf Ranking, Woods finished the week 4-1-0, the best record among all 24 competitors. When Woods and his partner, Matt Kuchar, won their opening Four-ball match, Woods became the all-time leader in victories in Presidents Cup history, breaking a tie with fellow American Jim Furyk. Australian Jason Day, who now lives in Central Ohio and is a member of Muirfield Village, and Canadian Graham DeLaet led the International Team with identical 3-1-1 records. They were paired together for the four team matches. This was the 10th playing of The Presidents Cup, which began in 1994. The U.S. Team has won eight times, while the International Team has won once. The two sides played to a historic 17-17 tie in 2003 in South Africa. The Presidents Cup was played in 1994 and 1996 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Prince William County, Virginia. Led by Hale Irwin in 1994 and by Arnold Palmer in 1996, the Americans won overe International Teams led, respectively, by David Graham and Peter Thomson. The first Presidents Cup played outside the United States was in 1998 in Australia, when Thomson's International squad defeateed Jack Nicklaus' Americans. Back in Virginia in 2000, Captain Ken Venturi led the U.S. Team over Thomson's Internationals. The Presidents Cup 2003 was originally scheduled for 2002 but was postponed one year in the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on America. When the matches ended in a 17-17 tie, Ernie Els of the International Team and Tiger Woods of the U.S. Team were designated to compete in a sudden-death playoff. After three playoff holes, and as darkness was descending, Captains Gary Player and Nicklaus, in the spirit of the competition, decided that the two teams would share the Cup. That decision became the new rule in the event of a tie after the scheduled 34 matches. The U.S. Team won in 2005 back in Virginia and in 2007 in Montreal, Canada. Nicklaus and Player were the captains in both of those years. Couples and Greg Norman were the captains for the first time when the U.S. Team won in 2009 in San Fransisco. Couples' team got the better of Norman's squad again in 2011 at Royal Melbourne in Australia. This official record of The Presidents Cup 2013 is dedicated to Bev Norwood, editor of previous editions, who died Sept. 4 after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 66. Bev was a respected writer, editor, publicist and public relations professional who had a deep reverence for the game of golf and who was a passionate supporter of events like The Presidents Cup that enhance the game and help it grow." -- from the inner front and rear jacket flaps.
