One of the aesthetically pleasing 'Heath's Picturesque Annual' series commissioned by the publisher and engraver Charles Heath, running from 1832-45, the present issued for 1843….A first-hand account of travels through the city of Paris, with observations on its architectural features, important buildings, itineraries, sceneries, as well as notes on culture, people, and history. A charming work by Jules Janin, French writer and critique.Bound with sixteen steel engravings of eighteen from designs by M. Eugene Lami. Most tissue guards were excised by a previous owner. Re-bound in half calf binding over cloth covered boards. Externally sound with shelf wear, minor scuffing to leather, lightly chipped to extremities of spine and boards, gentle sunning to spine. Front hinge slightly strained, boards holding firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean. With sixteen of eighteen plates of steel engravings. Very Good. M. Guardas de papel. Primera edición de uno de los primeros libros impresos en litografia para ilustrar los uniformes según los reglament…os para la caballería de 1815 y 1818. Godofredo Engelman (1778-1839) fue un impresor francés de los primeros que introdujo la litografía en su país y luego la llevó a Barcelona y Londres. En 1837 patentó la cromolitografía. La presente colección de láminas que representan diversas posiciones en el manejo del sable, es una de las primeras impresiones en litografía en nuestro país. En junio de 1815 y 1818 se promulgan dos Reglamentos para la caballería que contenían también normas sobre el vestuario que debían usar los militares. Afortunadamente podemos conocer la hechura de estos uniformes a través de este libro, donde se representan las distintas posiciones del sable en la esgrima tanto del reglamento de 1815 como del de 1818; lo atestigua la representación de uniformes de húsares y cazadores con las pellizas y dólmanes adornados con trencillas, eliminadas en 1818, y la presencia de casacas tanto con los ojales de la reglamentación de 1815 como sin ellos, según establece el reglamento de 1818. Libro poco común: CCPB registra sólo dos ejemplares en España; la Biblioteca Nacional registra otro ejemplar sólo (R/31792), y hemos encontrado también copia en la Biblioteca de Cataluña; OCLC cita sólo un ejemplar en Estados Unidos, en la Brown University. En la Biblioteca Nacional de Francia hay un ejemplar donde le asignan Cádiz como ciudad de impresión. 288x206mm. (11¼x8").
