Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Fine unread condition navy blue boards, red spine, gold front cover lettering and gold spine lettering contained in a fine condition non price-clipped photographic dust jacket. Includes List of Other Books by Thomas M. DeFrank; Author Dedication; Prologue; Epilogue; Acknowledgments and Index. Illustrated with a section of black-and-white photographic plates. A small 1/8th inch repaired nick at upper rear jacket edge. The spine/binding is in exceedingly tight and square unread condition (see photographs). "In an extraordinary series of private interviews, conducted over sixteen years with the stipulation that they not be released until after Gerald Ford's death, the thirty-eighth president of the United States reveals a profoundly different side of himself: funny, reflective, gossipy, strikingly candid -- and the stuff of headlines. In 1974, the award-winning journalist and author Thomas DeFrank, then a young correspondent for Newsweek, was interviewing Ford when the Vice President blurted out something astonishingly indiscreet related to the White House, came around his desk, grabbed DeFrank's tie, and told the reporter he could not leave the room until he promised not to publish it. "Write it when I'm dead," Ford said -- and that agreement formed the basis of their relationship for the next thirty-two years. During that time, they talked frequently, but from 1991 to shortly before Ford's death in 2006, the interviews became something else -- conversations between two men in which Ford talked in a way few presidents ever have. Here is the real Ford on his relationship with Richard Nixon (including the 1974 revelation, which, in DeFrank's words, "will alter what history thinks it knows about the events that culminated in Ford's becoming president"); his experiences serving on the Warren Commission; his complex relationships with Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter; his startling, never-before-disclosed discussions with Bill Clinton during the latter's impeachment process; his opinions about both Bush administrations, the Iraq war, and many contemporary political figures; and much more. Here, also, are Ford's unguarded personal musings: about key cultural events; his own life, history, and passions; his beloved wife, Betty; the frustrations of aging. In all, it is an unprecedented book, illuminating, entertaining, surprising, heartwarming, and in several cases, historic." - from the inner front jacket flap. Amoroso, Lisa (jacket design); Kennerly, David Hume (front jacket photograph); Auth, Bill (author photograph) (illustrator). …

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the nuanced relationship between the Chinese and Japanese cultures, exploring their distinctions in attire, customs, and daily life. The author juxtaposes the vibrant clothing and elaborate furnishings of the Chinese against the simpler attire and more austere homes of the Japanese. Beyond these superficial differences, the book delves into the deeper themes of cultural identity, tradition, and the impact of modernization on these ancient societies. The author provides valuable insights into the historical and social contexts that have shaped these two fascinating cultures, making this book an engaging and thought-provoking read for anyone interested in the complexities of human civilization. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a thorough exploration of art education's crucial role within public schools. Underscoring the universal human desire for beauty, the author delves into the historical neglect of art instruction in American education and highlights the shortcomings of school environments in fostering artistic appreciation. The book explores the multifaceted significance of art in education, examining its cognitive, emotional, and social benefits, and emphasizes the urgency of integrating art into the curriculum. Drawing upon historical and contemporary perspectives, the author presents compelling arguments for prioritizing art education as an essential component of a well-rounded education, arguing that it can empower individuals to navigate an increasingly complex and visually saturated world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
