The narrative recounts the harsh realities of captivity under the Ottoman Empire, where the author and his fellow officers faced brutal conditions, starvation, and constant threat of death. As a captive, the author was forced to endure inhumane treatment and navigate the complexities of a bureaucratic and often hostile system. The book vividly portrays the desperation that fueled the author's and his fellow prisoners' desire to escape. The narrative follows their daring attempts to gain freedom, ranging from meticulous planning of elaborate tunnels to a wildly ambitious scheme that relied on the unlikely intervention of a Handley-Page passenger plane. These accounts, brimming with both humor and heart, provide a remarkable glimpse into the courage and ingenuity that characterized the spirit of resistance against captivity. The author's writing not only offers a gripping firsthand account of the wartime experience but also sheds light on the brutal realities of the Ottoman Empire and the callous disregard for the welfare of prisoners of war. This book serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom and the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
