Also included is a loose insert pamphlet of 16 pages, by the same author, entitled "Notes on The Purchase of Land (Ireland) Act, 1891." Dublin, Browne and Nolan, 1891. John George MacCarthy (1829-1892) MP, barrister, Land Purchase Commissioner and political activist. Born Co.Cork, educated at St. Vincents Seminary, founder of the Cork Historical Society and the Cork Young Men's Society, writer on the Land Question and Home Rule. MP for Mallow 1874-80. An ardent campaigner for higher education for Catholics, who he saw as a disadvantaged majority suffering at the hands of a privileged minority.
