Seller: Mountain Gull Trading Company, Lake Hopatcong, NJ, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good+. 401 Pages. No dust jacket. This is a interesting historical book full of the colonial Charters, Acts, and other important documents from the 1606 - 1775 period of America's founding. The book comes in red boards with gold lettering on the spine. The exterior has four very lightly worn corners, wearing at the top and bottom edges of the spine, and some lightly worn spots on both the front and rear covers. The interior book has a former owner's name on the top of the first page in from the front cover and some underlining and column-side notations throughout the book. Outside of these distractions, there are no further visible distractions or detriments and thus all of the book's printing is preserved well and the book's bindings remain tight and therefore would be sound. If you order this book full of important early American documents from us, we will carefully wrap it up in either foam or bubble wrap and then pad and box it and mail it right away to you with both insurance and tracking on it.

First edition thus. xv, 446pp.; lii, 388pp. There is a frontispiece portrait and many black and white illustrations in both volumes. Top edges gilt. Charles Lamb (1775-1834) was an English essayist, poet, and antiquarian, best known for his Essays of Elia and for the children's book Tales from Shakespeare, co-authored with his sister, Mary Lamb (1764-1847). He was a friend of many literary luminaries such as Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Robert Southey, William Wordsworth, and William Hazlitt, and was at the centre of a major literary circle in England. These two volumes contain 588 letters written between 1796 to 1834. They are the first two volumes of a twelve volume edition of the works of Charles Lamb, edited and with a preface by William Macdonald. The books are uniformly bound in the original tan cloth covered boards with a blue cloth spine and gold titling and decoration on the spines. The cases of the books are in very good condition with light shelf wear on the boards and a small scrape in the cloth near the top corner of the rear board on volume 1. The contents are tight and clean with browning to the endpapers. There is no inscription.
