Hardcover. Six consecutive volumes, each about 200 pages. A 'handbook of ready reference, a family library of useful knowledge, with information covering scientific, historical, political, literary, and other subjects' -- from the 1883 edition. Text printed in two columns per page. First editions, except for 1882 (third edition), and 1883 (Second edition). Cloth copies with decorative blind stamp to the covers and gilt lettering on the spines. Very good copies with wear to the edges and corners. The 1885 edition discolored on the cover and split near the rear in the index. Former owner's stamp in each volume.
