Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Angelica Mesiti is one of the leading Australian artists of her generation. This beautiful book coincides with her first major exhibition in the UK, at the Talbot Rice Gallery. In the Round offers a window onto different elements of Mesiti's practice: from the communication of trees and the vision of bees; to the occupation and performance of resistance in the halls of democracy; to the migration of people, customs and music. Her artworks mine histories and perform messages, with sound, vocalisation and percussion running throughout the exhibition. The conversation and essays in this book - by the artist, leading cultural commentators, academics and the exhibition curator - provide a diverse array of entry points into Mesiti's practice. This richly illustrated catalogue is a kaleidoscopic tapestry of the artists own work alongside almost 50 items from across the University of Edinburgh's vast collections. A richly illustrated catalogue published to coincide with first major UK exhibition of acclaimed Australian artist Angelica Mesiti Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. On 29 January 2020, as the United Kingdom departed the European Union (EU) and as a final gesture of farewell, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) took to their feet in Brussels, held hands and sang Robert Burns' Auld Lang Syne a song which has come to represent solidarity, friendship and open doors. The following week, Nigerian artist Emeka Ogboh stood in the Robert Burns Monument in Edinburgh and conceived of Song of the Union, a sound installation featuring singers from all 27 EU member states living in Scotland today, as well as one from the recently departed UK. The resulting polyphonic choir gives voice to those who were unable to vote in the 2016 Brexit referendum, and has been created at a time when the post-Brexit reality is still far from resolved.Song of the Union includes scores of Auld Lang Syne translated into the 27 languages of the EU. Musicologist M. J. Grant provides the historical context of the song Auld Lang Syne, its connection to Robert Burns, and how the song came to be sung by communities across the world from the 19th century onwards. Berlin based curator and author Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung's reflects on the capacity that language has for possession and negotiating language and translation in Ogboh's work and Kirsty Hughes, Director of the Scottish Centre on European Relations, explores how Brexit happened and what may be next for Scotland and the UK. A richly illustrated catalogue documenting the emotionally rousing work Song of the Union by Emeka Ogboh, co-commissioned by Talbot Rice Gallery and Edinburgh Art Festival in 2021. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Using a form of expanded cinema artist Jesse Jones explores magical counter-narratives to the state, drawn from suppressed archetypes and myth. This is the first book dedicated to two seminal works by Jones: Tremble Tremble which she presented in the Irish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2017 and subsequently toured globally; and The Tower which was commissioned by Rua Red in Dublin as part of The Magdalene Series. Jones' research is grounded in the history of female mystical thought as a site of autonomy and resistance. She trusts in the potential of art to ignite our collective imaginary and agitate for change against the centuries of capital accumulation that has impacted upon women's freedoms. It is also the story about Jones' motivation as an artist and the extraordinary sea of political and cultural change that has engulfed Ireland over the past decade. This book is published on the occasion of Jesse Jones' exhibition The Tower at Talbot Rice Gallery. The first book dedicated to two seminal works by Irish artist Jesse Jones: Tremble Tremble and The Tower. Using a form of expanded cinema she explores magical counter-narratives to the state, drawn from suppressed archetypes and myth.
