Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Frölich, Karl; Chatelain (trans), Karl Fröhlich's Frolicks with Scissors and Pen. The Rhymes translated and adapted from the original German of Frölich, Joseph Myers (1860). First Edition. Brown cloth with blind stamped gilt design to front board bearing the title, and a blind stamped floral design around both boards. Fresh endpapers have been laid down. Internally mostly clean with occasional spotting and browning, but some creasing to leaves in the introduction and a small tear on page vii/viii which does not affect text. All illustrated plates (25) present showcasing Frölich's wonderful silhouette work. Some sunning to the spine of the book an some minor marking to the front board. Good. A very scarce item in commerce, and a joy to read. It is a book of 25 poems, translated from German to English by Madame de Chatelain, such as, 'The Unlucky Sportsman', 'Two Quarrelsome Sprits', 'Sloth and Pride: A Fable', with each poem having a black and white silhouette printed at the top. Frölich was the son of a shoemaker, but found a love of art and started to use scissors. It appears that this was issued in several colours of cloth bindings.
