A partire da una data imprecisata del 1940 Leone Maestro ha preso a registrare avvenimenti, osservazioni e pensieri con frequenza varia, spesso quotidiana, e questa abitudine è continuata per trentatré anni, ossia per tutto il resto della sua vita. Per quello che risulta a noi, malgrado siamo stati a lungo testimoni di questa sua attività (che del resto non ha mai nascosto), nessuna parte dei testi sono mai stati letti da qualcuno. L'autore, in qualche occasione, ci ha detto che alla sua morte avremmo potuto disporre dei suoi scritti a nostro piacere. Il nome Meditazioni è suo. Nel concreto, si tratta di settantotto quaderni di piccolo formato di diverso spessore, contenenti ciascuno dalle cinquanta alle ottanta facciate, riempite di una grafia minuscola ma facilmente leggibile, perché studiatamente elementare. La consultazione non è però semplice, perché l'autore scrive a lapis e per giunta usa spesso un linguaggio molto personale, ricco di sigle, abbreviazioni e stranezze ortografiche. Libro.
