Marianne was a young mother of three with a husband living a normal life in Lindenost, East Prussia, a province of Germany located on the southeastern coast of the Baltic Sea. When World War II erupted her husband was drafted into the German Army and sent to the Russian Front. Marianne carried on as best as she could until the Russian invasion that began in January, 1945. Her homeland was conquered and became a victim of brutal Communist oppression. The author, with her mother and her children, undertook a nightmare journey that eventually ended in West Germany, and then to Paducah, KY in the United States. Her mother did not survive. These memoirs are primary source historical documents that never made the national media. Included is a newspaper clipping about the book with a picture of Marianne and her daughter Trudy. The illustrated dust jacket (not price clipped) is in a clear protective cover.
