Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Maianne Schultz. Fate of the Conquered. NY: Carlton Press Hearthstone Book, 1974, 1st edition, 1st printing, 93 pp. *** Inscribed by the author on front free endpaper. Marianne was a young mother of three with a husband living a normal life in Lindenost, East Prussia, a province of Germany located on the southeastern coast of the Baltic Sea. When World War II erupted her husband was drafted into the German Army and sent to the Russian Front. Marianne carried on as best as she could until the Russian invasion that began in January, 1945. Her homeland was conquered and became a victim of brutal Communist oppression. The author, with her mother and her children, undertook a nightmare journey that eventually ended in West Germany, and then to Paducah, KY in the United States. Her mother did not survive. These memoirs are primary source historical documents that never made the national media. Included is a newspaper clipping about the book with a picture of Marianne and her daughter Trudy. The illustrated dust jacket (not price clipped) is in a clear protective cover. This book is in my inventory and the images are of this particular item. *** Red cloth boards with black lettering on spine. Back free endpaper tanned from news clipping, otherwise in Fine condition. Jacket is clean with light wear, slight chipping top of spine with no loss, one 1" closed tear on top edge of back panel repaired on verso with Filmoplast P archival tape. *** 8.25 inches tall by 5.5 inches. Inscribed by Author(s).
