paperback. Condition: Acceptable. China Institute in America, China House Gallery, New York, 1971. Paper covers, 60 pp, black and white illustrations, brief bibliography, chronology, 23 cm. In acceptable+ condition. Illustrated paper covers have light bumping and creasing to edges and corners and moderateove overall scuffing and soiling with a bit of the color scuffed off along edges and spine. Binding tight (staple bound). Insect damage to the bottom corners of the half-title and title pages. Otherwise pages are lightly aged but unmarked. Catalog published to accompany an exhibition at the China House Gallery, showcasing 40 examples of k'o-ssu (silk tapestry) from the 6th to the 19th centuries. The exhibited works were sourced from both private and museum collections, highlighting the intricate artistry and historical significance of this Chinese textile tradition. The catalog provides detailed descriptions and scholarly commentary on each piece, offering insights into the techniques, motifs, and cultural contexts of k'o-ssu weaving. Jean Mailey was a respected scholar in the field of Asian textiles and decorative arts. Her expertise and curatorial work have contributed significantly to the understanding and appreciation of Chinese silk tapestry.
