Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Second edition. Fair. No dust jacket. Illustrated boards are bumped and worn along edges. Cloth spine has tears at head and foot, but remains intact. Large bookplate on front pastedown (as issued?) bears a brief non-authorial gift inscription. A few pages with a touch of foxing, chips and/or short tears. Hinges are decidedly weak, but nothing is loose. Fold-out map present near the back. A fascinating account, graphically interesting presentation.

This is the "Standard Edition" of the second edition, bound in colored cloth with outer cover designs, limited to 750 copies. Fold-out map in rear. Two tipped-in photographs. Most pages illuminated by N. Strekalowsky. The artists M. Fisher, H. Bindhart, and E. Kassessinoff also contributed. Large book plate on front fixed endpaper, as issued. Spine is worn and has a small hole, chipping to spine label. Several pages have impressions and residue from paper clips. Rear gutter starting opposite the map.

The uncut edges are age tanned and there is a previous owners bookplate on the front pastedown. The front free endpaper has become partially detached but is still securely attached. The contents are very bright and clean with only a very occasional spot of foxing. Scans available if required.

The title label on the spine is chipped and rubbed, and there is some foxing to all 3 edges. There is some fraying to the head and tail of the spine, with some tears to the hessian (the worst of these is in the bottom right-hand corner of the lower cover, which I have pictured in close-up). There is some foxing to the opening leaves, scattered foxing throughout. The binding is sound. Overall, a reasonable copy of the standard edition, but with some rubbing to the spine and spine label, some tears to the hessian at the head and tail of the spine, foxing throughout.
