From the first moment that the war commenced until its close some unit of the Regiment was engaged. Flanders, France, Gallipoli, Egypt. Palestine and Macedonia. During the period of the war more than 100,000 officers and men passed through the ranks of the Regiment: of these 11,162 were killed and over 40,000 wounded.
