Paper. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. An Original Handwritten and Signed Letter by Major John Grant of the Irish 89th Foot to Charles Forbes Merchant of India. Dated 1810. The letter relates Grants Appointment as a Major in the 89th Regiment, his presentation to the king and affairs in Parliament. John Grant formally of the 86th regiment retuned from India in 1810 and was promoted to Major of the 89th on 14th Match 1810. He was mortally wounded near Malaga during the Peninsular War (1808-14) on 14th October 1810 aged 48 and buried in Gibraltar. Size is 228mm x 188mm. In good condition with folding creases.
