Contains two frontispiece of both soldiers, and four other plates in the main text. Collated complete. A touching account of the frienship between two men who taught at Shrewsbuy School and enlised together as soldiers in the First World War, Evelyn Southwell and Malcolm White, including their thoughtful letters and their diary entries. Both were fought and died at the Battle of the Somme, two months apart from each other. In the publisher's original quarter cloth, with grey paper boards. Externally, slight signs of browning to paper boards, and fading to spine. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. Slight spotting to end papers, and previous owner's signature to front free end paper. Internally, firmly bound, with very minor wear to hinge between plate and p.257.
