Dr. Gilman recapture's the ship's history, telling its story through the eyes of a farm boy who grew up at sea during the Revolutionary period. [As] the restrictions piled up on the Crown Colonies after 1765, BLAZING STAR became engaged in contraband and smuggling. With the stamp Act and the closure of the ports, it smuggled tea, glass, paper, cloth, and even men hunted by the Crown. [When] George Washington stopped at the Rahway Tavern on his way to take command of the army at Cambridge, the men of the BLAZING STAR offered their services, and the ship went forth as a privateer, making her place in history, bathed in blood and drenched in fire throughout the American Revolution."
