Animal Trust; a volunteer at Trindledown Farm
Rota (Julian). Packham (Chris) Foreword by Chris Packham. From the foreword: "Here is a plain, simple and good story about an essential connection between a man and his unruly charges. About how modest encounters with beautiful animals forge a deeper understanding of the value of life, all life, and formulate a desire to protect and preserve it . A gentle awakening, a broader vision and a greater love - all the ingredients for a better life. Quietly inspirational and charmingly honest, this tale is a real life changer from a life really changed."

Soft cover. Condition: Good. This is a rare, original piece of 18th-century British loyalist propaganda, a pamphlet titled "Ten Minutes Caution from a Plain Man to His Fellow Citizens" by "A Plain Man" - no author name is cited. 1792; Richard Edwards; London. Complete in 20 pages (including the half title page and title page). M…easures 8 1/4" tall x 5" wide. The author makes the case that the British people should remain under the British Constitution as it is, and not bend towards the Constitutions of America or France: "We have long found the good effects of our own constitution, and certainly never more than at present, we have therefore no need of trying experiments to mend it." He frequently cites THOMAS PAINE (in a harsh light), and specifically Paine's "Rights of Man." The author is a successful, local businessman who argues against Great Britain adopting an American or French-style constitution, stating: "The truth is, I believe, that if ever this new system was to take place, the effect would be, that the next day all the rich would be ruined, above half the industrious would be soon put out of employ, and in a little time all the poor would be starved." He cites Thomas Paine as "one of the great apostles of the new doctrines," calls him an "imposter" and a "great pretender to humanity," and says that the British people would be "mad" for listening to him. He says that Paine calls the British Constitution "wretchedly bad," and that the British people "should overturn it, and get the American or the French constitution as fast as we can." The writer alludes to the French Revolution that was going on at the time: "But whether their present confusion and distress shall at last settle into something like our government, or, after a great deal of bloodshed, lead to something worse than they suffered before, what is that to us?" He makes his final case by saying "But without philosophy or fine writing, I may venture to beseech you, not to throw away all the blessings you possess on a wild experiment to find something better, and that too on the authority of people who have an interest in misleading you." Condition: The half title page (which is the first/opening page) has nearly detached.all other pages are securely attached. The pages are in nice condition - very lightly age-toned, and clean with no notable issues found. Disbound - the pamphlet appears to have been extracted from a larger volume. Overall the pamphlet is in Good+ condition.

The Preface, dated December 1828, explains that the author contributed this pamphlet to the New York Anti-Auction Committee, which sought to stamp out public auctions in New York. He argues that the auction "system holds out… strong temptations to violate integrity." Auctions are "paralyzing the efforts, and rendering futile the plans of regular merchants, by the constant fluctuations in the prices and qualities of goods."
